Calling all pastors… Christian Expedition is hosting a 9-day familiarization trip to Greece & Turkey!

This familiarization trip is limited to senior or executive pastors of churches with 500+ in weekly attendance, along with one guest. Only one pastor and guest per church, please. Some exceptions may apply. Please contact us for more details. If after traveling on this familiarization trip you return with us to Greece & Turkey with a group from your church, we will refund you what you paid for this familiarization trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Friday, January 12, 2024Depart the USA

The day has arrived and we depart the US on an overnight journey to Greece. Flights from NY-JFK are included in the tour price. If you would like us to fly you from your local airport, please contact us for a quote.

Day 2: Saturday, January 13, 2024Arrive in Greece

Today we arrive in Greece at Thessaloniki Airport (SKG).  You will be met by your driver, who will bring you to our hotel. Overnight Thessaloniki. D.

Day 3: Sunday, January 14, 2024Phillipi, Kavala

This morning, after breakfast, we visit the archaeological site of Philippi, which holds great biblical significance. Explore the ruins of the ancient city and learn about its connection to the Apostle Paul and the early Christian community. Highlights of the site include the the site where it is believed Lydia’s heart was opened by God to the Gospel (Acts 16:14), the Roman Forum, the theater, and the prison where Paul and Silas were held captive. We move on to Kavala, which is the biblical Neapolis, where Paul once landed with Timothy and Silas. We see the city’s Roman Aqueduct and Acropolis. Overnight Thessaloniki. B, D.

Day 4: Monday, January 15, 2024Thessaloniki, Veria

We tour Thessaloniki (biblical Thessalonica), where Paul preached and founded a church to which he wrote the Epistles of 1st and 2nd Thessalonians. We see sites like the old city walls, theater, and Roman market. Then it’s on to Veria (biblical Berea), which Paul and Silas went after they caused a riot in Thessalonica (Acts 17). We see the location where Paul preached to the Bereans. We then drive to Athens, where we spend the night. B, D.

Day 5: Tuesday, January 16, 2024Corinth

We head to Corinth, where Paul labored for the Gospel and met Aquila and Priscila. It was to the church in Corinth that Paul wrote 1 and 2 Corinthians. We see the Temple of Apollo, the Roman agora, and the Bema, where Paul stood trial before Gallio. We see an inscription mentioned Erastus, who is mentioned by Paul at Romans 16:23. Overnight Athens. Day 6: Wednesday, January 17, 2024Athens

We tour Athens, including some of the city’s most iconic sites like the Parthenon, and the Areopagus where Paul famously preached in Acts 17. In the afternoon we head to the airport and board our flight to Izmir, Turkey. Overnight Izmir or Kusadasi. B, D.

Day 7: Thursday, January 18, 2024Pergamum, Smyrna

We begin our day with a visit to Pergamum, where we see the Red Basilica which housed the 1st century church addressed by Jesus in Revelation. We also visit Pergamum’s Acropolis, which was designed to imitate the one in Athens and the Asclepeion Temple which was dedicated to the Greek god of healing. We visit the site of ancient Smyrna, another of the church addressed by Jesus in Revelation. Overnight Izmir or Kusadasi. B, D.

Day 8: Friday, January 19, 2024Ephesus, Miletus

Today we visit the archaeological site of ancient Ephesus. Paul preached, taught, and lived in Ephesus for an extended period of time (Acts 19:1-10). We see what is believed to be the house where Mary, the mother of Jesus, lived towards the end of her life. We also visit Miletus, where Paul met the elders of Ephesus. Your flight home may depart either tonight or tomorrow. If tomorrow and an overnight is required, overnight Izmir or Kusadasi. B, D.

Day 9: Saturday, January 20, 2024Arrive at Home

Your flight home may depart either the previous night or today. If today, and time allows, breakfast is included today. Either way, today we arrive back at home.
