Our journey begins as we depart the United States on an overnight flight to the heart of Europe. As we travel toward the Czech Republic, we prepare our hearts and minds to walk in the footsteps of courageous men and women who shaped the history of the Church and the world.
We arrive in Prague, the enchanting capital of the Czech Republic, where cobblestone streets echo the footsteps of Reformation pioneers. After meeting our English-speaking tour escort at Václav Havel Airport, we transfer to our hotel. This evening, we gather for dinner and fellowship. Overnight Prague. Occidental Praha Five or similar. D.
Our day begins with breakfast, followed by a half-day exploration of Prague’s Hradčany District, a treasure trove of history. We tour Prague Castle, the ancient seat of Bohemian kings, and the awe-inspiring St. Vitus Cathedral, a gothic masterpiece where faith and history intertwine. Crossing the iconic Charles Bridge, we journey to Bethlehem Chapel, a faithful reconstruction of the church where Jan Hus—the bold forerunner of the Reformation—preached fiery sermons calling for reform between 1402 and 1413. We then walk through the charming Old Town Square, marveling at the Astronomical Clock and pausing before the statue of Hus, a testament to Christian courage. The afternoon is yours to explore at leisure. Overnight Prague. Occidental Praha Five or similar. B, D.
After breakfast, we depart Prague and head to Leipzig, Germany, where the musical legacy of J.S. Bach intersects with Reformation history. Here we visit the 13th-century St. Thomas Church, where Martin Luther preached in 1539 and where Bach would later serve as cantor. Overnight Wittenberg. Best Western Soibelmanns Lutherstadt or similar. B, D.
This morning, we walk through the town that served as the cradle of the Protestant Reformation. We visit the Castle Church (All Saints), where Martin Luther famously nailed his 95 Theses in 1517. Here, we also see the tombs of Luther and Melanchthon. We explore St. Mary’s Church, where Luther regularly preached, and take in the statues, town square, and Renaissance-era Town Hall that framed the Reformer’s life and ministry. Overnight Erfurt. Radisson Blu Hotel or similar. B, D.
After breakfast, we step into the quiet of the Augustinian Monastery in Erfurt. It was here that Luther lived as a monk from 1505 to 1511, earnestly seeking God before discovering grace through faith. From there, we travel to Eisenach and ascend to Wartburg Castle. Within these storied walls, Luther found refuge after the Diet of Worms and translated the New Testament into German. We visit the humble “Luther Stube,” where he labored in secret. Later, we explore the Luther House Museum, situated in the building where Luther once lived as a student. The museum immerses us in his life, theology, and the powerful movement he helped spark. Overnight Erfurt. Radisson Blu Hotel or similar. B, D.
Today, we journey to Worms, a city forever marked by Luther’s bold declaration before Emperor Charles V. With our guide, we explore the Monument to the Reformation and visit Worms Cathedral (pending confirmation), one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture. We walk the Heylshof Gardens, the historical site where Luther refused to recant his writings at the Diet of Worms in 1521. Though the original Bishop’s Palace is no longer standing, the weight of that moment endures—”Here I stand, I can do no other.” Overnight Mannheim. Dorint Kongresshotel or similar. B, D.
This morning we journey south to Constance, a serene city by the lake with a solemn past. In 1415, the Czech reformer Jan Hus was condemned and burned at the stake for his unwavering commitment to Scripture and truth. We visit the Hussenstein, the stone that marks the place of his execution, and step inside the Hus-Museum, a tribute to his enduring legacy. Overnight Constance. Hampton by Hilton. B, D.
Today we travel to Zurich, Switzerland, a city renowned for its Reformation history as well as its beauty and culture. We visit the Grossmünster, one of the four main churches of the city. It’s construction began in 1100 AD, and it was inaugurated in 1220 AD. In the 16th century, it became the focal point of the Swiss Reformation. The reformer Ulrich Zwingli became the pastor here in 1519, and began to preach Reformation theology. After Zwingli’s death, the reformer Heinrich Bullinger became the pastor here, and upon his death was buried here. The austere interior of the church is a direct reflection of the iconoclastic bent of the reformers. We see the Zwingli House and the Helferei, where he worked. Finally, we will make our way to Wasserkirche, where we see the Zwingli monument. Overnight Geneva. Novotel City Center or similar. B, D.
Our final full day is devoted to discovering Geneva’s vital role in the Reformation. We tour St. Pierre Cathedral, where John Calvin preached and taught with unwavering conviction. We walk through Calvin’s Auditorium and Calvin College, foundational places to the global spread of Reformed theology. In the afternoon, we explore the internationally acclaimed Reformation Museum with a specialist guide. This immersive experience includes original manuscripts, artifacts, dramatic exhibits, and the famous Reformation Wall—home to towering statues of the reformers Beza, Calvin, Farel, and Knox. Overnight Geneva. Novotel City Center or similar. B, D.
