Days until Departure
The day has arrived and we depart from Los Angeles (LAX) on an overnight journey to Greece.
Today we arrive in Greece at Thessaloniki Airport (SKG). Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and driver, who will take you to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be spent at leisure. Overnight Thessaloniki. D.
After breakfast we visit Philippi, which was built by Alexander the Great’s father, Philip II, in 356 BC. We see the ancient theater, and the prison where Paul and Silas were held before an earthquake occurred, causing the jailer to famously ask, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” We visit the stream where Lydia was baptized as the first convert in Europe. Overnight Thessaloniki. B, D.
This morning we will enjoy a tour of Thessaloniki, which is biblical Thessalonica. We will then make our way to Veria (biblical Berea). We will visit the place where, according to tradition, Paul preached to the Bereans, along with the Synagogue. Then it’s on to Vergina, where we will see the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Overnight Thessaloniki. B, D.
This morning we fly from Thessaloniki to Athens, where we will stand on Mars Hill (Areopagus)—the very place where the Apostle Paul boldly proclaimed the Gospel to the philosophers of Athens, as recorded in Acts 17. Nearby, we’ll explore the Acropolis, the ancient citadel that towers over the city, including a visit to the iconic Parthenon, a symbol of classical antiquity. Overnight in Athens. B, D.
This morning we travel to ancient Corinth, where the Apostle Paul ministered and later wrote 1 and 2 Corinthians to the local church. As we explore this deeply significant biblical site, we’ll visit the Fountain of Peirene, walk before the bema where Paul stood trial before Gallio (Acts 18), and see the pavement inscription referencing Erastus, a city official mentioned in Romans 16:23. We’ll ascend to the fortress of Acrocorinth for sweeping views and continue to Cenchreae, the port from which Paul departed and the home of Phoebe, the deaconess commended in Romans 16:1. Overnight Athens. B, D.
Today we board a ferry which will bring us to the island of Aegina. We have free time on this island, the waterfront of which is lined by fish taverns, restaurants, gift shops, and small kiosks selling pistachio nuts (a local delicacy). We return to the mainland, and upon returning to Athens those wanting to do so will spend time in the Plaka district, the city’s cultural and commercial hub.  Overnight Athens. B, D.
The Ancient Agora was the vibrant civic and commercial heart of classical Athens – a place where daily life unfolded against the backdrop of history, philosophy, and political innovation. Citizens gathered here to trade goods, debate ideas, hear public announcements, and shape the early democratic ideals that would influence the Western world. It also holds biblical significance. It was here, amidst the statues and colonnades, that the Apostle Paul talked and reasoned with the Athenians. As described in Acts 17, Paul engaged the people in the marketplace and was later brought to the Areopagus to explain the Gospel. We will make our way to the airport, and board our flight to Izmir, Turkey. Overnight Kusadasi. B, D.
Today we visit Ephesus. The ancient city of Ephesus was a bustling port town of approximately 250,000 inhabitants. The church at Ephesus was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation, and Paul spent a significant amount of time here. Overnight Kusadasi. B, D.
After breakfast we visit Pergamum, another of the Seven Churches of Revelation. We see the remains of the ancient library, the theater, the temples, the place of the altar of Zeus, the Sanctuary of Demeter, the Gymnasium, and the Asclepium. We also visit the Red Basilica. Overnight Kusadasi. B, D.
Today you can either have a free day, or participate in a tour of Laodicea and Colossae. Laodicea is one of the seven churches addressed in the Book of Revelation, known in antiquity for its wealth, medical advancements, and textile industry. Visitors will explore the well-preserved ruins, including a Roman theater, stadium, agora, and an early Christian basilica. From there, the journey continues to nearby Colossae, the city to which Paul addressed his Letter to the Colossians. The site, which is not yet excavated, offers a view of Mount Cadmus and the Lycus Valley. Overnight Kusdasai. B, D.
Today we transfer to the airport (ADB) and begin our journey home. If time allows, breakfast is included today. Later today we arrive back in Los Angeles (LAX)
You are always welcome to arrange your own flights. Arranging airfare on your own gives you the ability to spend personally-earned airline miles for your ticket, handpick your seats, upgrade directly with the airline, or deviate from the group in other ways.
We work with airlines on booking group airfare from anticipated departure airports. This allows us to get the best rates to fly you and the rest of the group to and from your destination. Group air contracts do not allow deviations, date changes, or upgrades, and in some cases issuing tickets at individual rates may be necessary. See “special flight/hotel requests section” below.
Select your preferred departure airport during registration. If you don’t see your preferred airport listed, please select “send me a flight quote”.
If you have booked airfare through us and would like to apply your Known Traveler Number (for TSA PreCheck) and/or your CBP PASSID (for Global Entry), you may provide it to us during registration. Forgot your KTN? Retrieve it here: https://tsaenrollmentbyidemia.tsa.dhs.gov/ktn-lookup
We cannot book your airfare using earned frequent flyer miles or airline vouchers. However, if the airfare we book for you coincides with an airline you are a member of, we are happy to apply your frequent flyer # to your booking for any mile accrual (if applicable).
Absolutely. If you would like to arrive earlier/depart later than the group and/or upgrade your airfare, please contact us at hello@christianexpedition.com
The group’s flight schedules will be provided to you digitally and in the mail 30 days before the pilgrimage.
