The day has arrived, and we depart the US on an overnight journey to Saudi Arabia.* Flights from the NYC area are included, but Christian Expedition can arrange flights for you from your local, non-NYC area airport for an additional cost.
We arrive in the city of Tabuk, nestled in the stark and beautiful northwest of Saudi Arabia. After clearing passport control, we transfer to our hotel. Overnight Tabuk area. D.
After breakfast, we set out by to explore the desert region traditionally associated with Midian — the place where Moses fled after killing the Egyptian and where he encountered the burning bush. Our route today takes us to the tombs bearing the name of Jethro, the priest of Midian and father-in-law of Moses. We continue to a spring known as Moses’ Well, where tradition holds he watered the flocks and met Zipporah. Later, we venture deep into the rocky wilderness to visit a towering, split granite rock formation many believe matches the biblical description of the rock at Horeb — where Moses struck and water gushed out. Today we approach Jabal Maqla, a dark-peaked mountain within a vast desert range, believed by some to be the biblical Mount Sinai. We will spend time at the base of the mountain, viewing the summit from below, and exploring the surrounding area, including a large stone altar-like structure with what appear to be cows on it – which some associate with the golden calf incident. Following breakfast, we embark on a full-day journey to a site along the Gulf of Aqaba, which some believe is the location where the Israelites arrived after their crossing of the Red Sea. Overnight Tabuk area. B, L, D.
Today we travel into the scenic Dissah Valley, a striking oasis surrounded by dramatic sandstone cliffs and lush vegetation. We will take time to enjoy the serene atmosphere and remarkable landscapes, allowing for reflection and appreciation of the region’s natural beauty. Your flight home may depart either late tonight or the following day. If the following day and an overnight is required, Overnight Tabuk area. B, L, D.
Your flight home may depart either the previous night or today. If today and time allows, breakfast is included today. Either way, today you will arrive back in the United States.*
*Flights into and out of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia are limited. Depending on your point of departure, it might be necessary to leave a day early, or to return home a day later, than the itinerary indicates.
